In Reading, a local election hopeful is campaigning against Landlords who have failed to keep properties tidy in one of the town’s most historical neighbourhoods.
The Reading Chronicle has reported that former Mayor, Rose Williams, is pressing the council’s Environmental Health Teams to stop Landlords neglecting rented homes. It has been reported that a number of the properties in the area currently have overgrown and rubbish strewn gardens.
The neighbourhood includes a large number of private, rented and share terrace houses, flats and bedsits. Ms Williams has stated:
“Landlords neglecting their properties aren’t just affecting their own tenants, but everyone else who lives, walks or drives down that street. It’s unacceptable, but by working together we can restore these lovely Victorian streets to a decent state and everybody will benefit. A tidy house and garden gives a boost to the whole area.”
New laws are being put in place to ensure Landlords are punished if they allow long term empty homes to fall into disrepair. In addition to this, there will be new regulations put in place to prevent Landlords from living in dangerous conditions.
