Out and about in Bracknell

Bracknell housing has undergone many changes since the first mention of the name Bracknell; "Braccen Heal" appeared on a 10th century Saxon document. In 1949 Bracknell and the surrounding area was selected as one of eight new towns built within 30 miles of London to alleviate the housing crisis caused by World War II. Now living in Bracknell is highly sought after, with a population of around 110,000. From water slides to woodland walks, there is plenty to entertain in Bracknell Forest. Bracknell town centre is within walking distance of the Odeon Cinema and the Hollywood Bowl, bowling alley, both at The Point, Bracknell. Five minutes’ drive from the town centre is John Nike Leisure Sport Complex with a dry ski slope, ice skating and other winter sports activities. Bracknell Forest Council also runs several activity sites around the borough. One of these is the tranquil and recently restored Lily Hill Park with its open vistas and great dog walking.

For a taste of culture, head out of town to South Hill Park Arts Centre which is not only home to artists and sculptures, but also has a theatre, a restaurant and amazing gardens. For the more adventurous visitor to Bracknell then there is Go Ape, where the high ropes come into a world of their own enabling you to swing from tree to tree. There are also many golf courses to choose from including the Blue Mountain Golf Club and Downshire Golf Course.
