The ‘mass exodus’ of Londoners buying properties outside of the city has shown no sign of letting up since the pandemic, with reports showing that Londoners purchased a whopping 61,830 homes outside of the capital in the first six months of the year. Of this number, over 70% bought properties in the South of England.

As it stands, Londoners now make up 8.6% of all buyers outside the capital, which is the highest proportion on record. And with the average Londoner paying £389,975 for their new properties, it is estimated that Londoners have spent a collective £24.1 billion on homes outside the capital so far this year.

But who are these London buyers, and what are they looking for? Research has shown that first-time buyers make up the majority of Londoners moving out of the city, whilst figures from Hamptons reveal that 20% of Londoners buying outside the capital this year were investors and second home buyers looking to move outside of the M25.

So, whether your property would make the perfect first home or an excellent investment, it is imperative that it is seen by the Londoners who are flocking out of the city in their thousands.
