PROSPECT IN THE COMMUNITY

We work with a number of charities, schools and local causes

You might think an estate agency’s sole purpose is to sell and let property. However, at Prospect we work in real estate because we are passionate about our local area. Because of this, we created the Prospect Foundation.

The Prospect Foundation is the arm of the business which exists purely to give back to the local community, supporting schools, charities and other initiatives. We are proud to have been involved in school fetes, donating selling fees to schools, and donating to and promoting charity events. We even sponsored triplets competing in a triathlon for Team GB (both a sporting feat and a tongue-twister!)

In particular, we work closely with locally-built charity Wokingham in Need which has paved the way in helping the vulnerable in Wokingham.

Why do we do this? Because the areas where our branches are based are more than just workplaces. For many of us, including owners Colin Wells and James May, this is where we have grown up, built our lives and raised families. Nurturing the area we call home is close to our hearts - it is as much a part of the Prospect brand as property is.

In 2019, Prospect donated over £30,000 to charities and local initiatives.

OUR WORK WITH WOKINGHAM IN NEED

In affluent areas like Wokingham, it is often easy to forget that people who are vulnerable and in need of help live there too.

Luckily, local resident Sue Jackson founded Wokingham in Need (WIN) four years ago to help anyone and everyone in need in the Wokingham area.

Young or old, suffering mentally or struggling financially, no group is excluded from WIN’s support. Prospect are humbled to be involved with WIN’s wide-ranging projects, from building a sensory garden for adults with learning disabilities at the Acorn Centre in Woosehill, equipping the Salvation Army on Surges Road with new facilities, creating a homeless drop-in centre, and with much more on the horizon!

We look forward to continuing our collaboration in pursuit of our mutual aim to provide assistance to those in need and build a thriving local community. But don’t let it stop with us – you can help support this exceptional local charity too:

  • Donations - Donations can be made via WIN’s Facebook page – just look for the big blue “Donate” button at the top (don’t forget to press “yes” for gift aid!) or, if you’re in town, pop into the Prospect Estate Agents in Wokingham on Broad Street and leave your donation with them. WIN now has a credit card facility so it couldn’t be easier!
  • Events - Keep up to date with all the fantastic events WIN are hosting on their website (wokinghaminneed.co.uk) or their Facebook page.
  • Volunteer - If you’d like to lend a helping hand at an event, email wokinghaminneed@gmail.com to discuss how you can help.

We continue to help local charities in our local communities

OUR WORK WITH DRUGFAM

Community is about feeling supported and at times of hardship it is a comfort to know that local initiatives like DrugFAM are there.

DrugFAM is a charity providing assistance to families, friends and partners impacted by a loved one’s substance misuse – including in instances of bereavement.

Prospect is assisting DrugFAM through Wokingham in Need (WIN), and has donated £10,000 towards putting on plays and awareness workshops in schools and colleges to highlight the effects of drug abuse.

We hope that raising awareness of the harms of drug abuse will set the foundation for an ever stronger community here.

  • Donations - Donations can be made on DrugFAM’s website – click the “support us” dropdown at the top of the page.
  • Social media – DrugFAM are also found on Facebook and Twitter.

We have donate to a wide range of schools and charities

OUR WORK WITH LAUNCHPAD

Working in property, we know more than anyone the importance of having a home, so the issue of homelessness is close to our hearts. Because of this, we reached out to local charity Launchpad, based in Reading.

Launchpad’s main focus is homelessness prevention via providing homes, skills and resources to help those without a permanent home as well as those at risk of homelessness. This includes special Christmas initiatives, such as an annual fundraising carol service and a Winter Grotto which provides homeless families Christmas gifts they wouldn’t normally have access to.

To support the charity, we visited Launchpad’s Winter Grotto and made a monetary donation to help their Christmas projects and potentially future ones too: Launchpad has exciting plans to open Reading’s first work and life skills centre enabling those in need to get back into work and improve their livelihoods.

  • If you are interested in learning more about Launchpad or want to make a donation, their website can be found at www.launchpadreading.org.uk.
