The local housing market in Reading

Our market update in September

Traditionally September is a busy month in the lettings market and following in the same vein as July and August, this year September has been busier than ever!

Tenant demand is still strong since the post lockdown rush, with us registering over 550 new applicants last month alone, 18% more than August.

The majority of applicants are still looking for town centre apartments, especially ones with any outside space such as a shared garden or balcony. Though there is still a lot of families out there that require houses within various pockets of Reading and the surrounding areas.

With more and more of us having to work from home, having somewhere to set up a home office is also a popular request right now. Because of the tenant demand for these two things, properties with an area to work from and outside space are letting the quickest.

Properties that allow pets are also still extremely popular and Landlord’s who accept them are also able to add a small premium to the monthly rent.

As we now approach the final quarter of the year, we will find that there will be a mad rush to secure a property before the end of the year – proving to be a great time to have a property available on the market, contrary to people thinking it gets quieter in the winter months.
